A Doll’s House Essay
Perspective of A Dollââ¬â¢s House Henrik Ibsenââ¬â¢s A Dollââ¬â¢s House uses emotional conversations to depict a family living in false emotional circumstances and having to come to terms with reality. The title A Dollââ¬â¢s House describes the facade of a family living in a nice house. The platitude ââ¬Å"All that glitters is not goldâ⬠means that not everything that looks good on the outside is not good on the inside, like a dollââ¬â¢s house. In the first part of the play, Noraââ¬â¢s old friend from school, Mrs. Linde arrives impromptu. Nora is very fast to describe to her what a good life she has; ââ¬Å"So you are quite alone. How dreadfully sad that must be. I have three lovely children. You cannot see them just now, for they are out with their nurseâ⬠(7). This shows how important it is to Nora to keep up her facade of having a nice home and a good life. Itââ¬â¢s also makes a distance between the two women's lives, even if Mrs. Linde tells Nora ab out her poor family situation, Nora still brags. During the conversation, Nora tells Mrs. Linde about her secret; that she has borrowed money from Krogstad, one of the bankers in town, to help her husband Torvald a long time ago.Torvald does not know anything about the loan and Mrs. Linde is surprised about it and she thinks Nora should tell him about it. Nora answers; ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ And besides, how painful and humiliating it would be for Torvald, with his manly independence, to know that he owed me anything! It would upset our mutual relations altogether; our beautiful happy home would no longer be what it is nowâ⬠(12). This reflects the old sight of male and female position in the home or relation; the man is the one who should be responsible for the income and be independent. The female part is the opposite. The last sentence from Nora, demonstrates once again how important it is for her that her life looks perfect from the viewerââ¬â¢s sight. Nora is in a very hard situ ation with Krogstad because of the loan she took a long time ago. Krogstad behaves insipid against Nora in the middle of the play, when he threats her to tell Torvald about the loan. She talks to Dr. Rank, an old friend of the family, and she is very close to betraying her big secret, but instead she just informs him; ââ¬Å"You can do nothing for me now. Besides I really donââ¬â¢t need any help at all. You will find that the whole thing is merely fancy on my part.It really is so-of course it is! â⬠(41). From this we learn that Nora changes her sight of her self. She acts very clearly to Dr. Rank for many reasons, for example to get rid of Dr. Rankââ¬â¢s curiosity and also to convince her self that she has done the right thing and that everything is going to be fine. It also shows one of her first steps into her independence. In the end of the play, Nora realizes that her life is not real, is not perfect, is not fantastic; it is just like a dream story from outside like she always wanted her life to be ââ¬â but she is not satisfied.Nora decides to tell Torvald about how she feels and she forces him to talk with her seriously; ââ¬Å"I say that we have never sat down in earnest together to try to get at the bottom of anything. â⬠Torvald answers ââ¬Å"But, dearest Nora, would it have been any good to you? â⬠(66). It looks like Torvald doesnââ¬â¢t think Nora has her own thoughts, or her own willing. He does not listen to her or maybe he does not want to listen to her. Nora continues to inform Torvald about her feelings, about how he and her father have made a big sin against her. ââ¬Å"It is your fault that I have made nothing of my lifeâ⬠(66).Nora is much older now then she was when she first met Torvald, and she has changed during the years. Both of them play their roles very well and it is not only Torvaldââ¬â¢s fault that she has not been able to do something of her life. When it comes to someoneââ¬â¢s life, it is very much up to the person herself. Nora tells Torvald that she has never been standing on her own feet, ââ¬Å"I have been your doll wife, just as at home I was Papaââ¬â¢s doll child; and here the children have been my dolls. I thought it great fun when you played with me, just as they thought it was great fun when I played with them. That is what our marriage has been, Torvaldâ⬠(67). Ibsen describes how Nora gets an insight about which kind of life she lives. The image pattern of Nora shows a change comparing of the beginning of the book when she brags in front of people. The three children stand for happiness but Nora does not seem to have a close and genuine relationship to them. It is just a scene. Nora comes to a point in her life when she understands that she lives an unreal life and she has to do something about it. Ibsen shows that she is able to take the step out of the marriage like an independent person.Everyone thinks she lives her life like a doll in a perfect home. Ibsenââ¬â¢s choice of title is both good and ironic; good because it brings thoughts to the perfect family-life, and ironic because the play tells about how the inside of the house; the family, the marriage, the relations etc. , struggles with a lot of problems in contrast to the facade. One of Ibsenââ¬â¢s messages about marriage and family is to manage to be happy together, everyone has to take care and understand herself before she can take care of others. When a person is independent and safe on her own, she is able to love and take care of her true love and family.

Doctor Patient Communication Essay
This is the adopted mode of communication with the patient aiming at firstly, getting enough history or information towards diagnosing the patient presenting complaint and equally ensuring that the patientââ¬â¢s right to privacy, good health, and permission as the need arises, is not compromised during the process. ââ¬Å"When communication and rapport is poor, patients are at risk of distressed and doubt doctorââ¬â¢s competenceâ⬠(Allen, 2000). Research reports that patients often wrongly base clinical skills on communication effectiveness. Patient with this bias mind eventually shows poor cooperation with treatments. This is more reason why it is an ethical issue. The present state of the patientââ¬â¢s psychological state is important. A depressed patient would prefer less talk than a patient who is worried to get fast cure and some times talk out of points if unguided by an experience doctor. Due to diverse understanding from multicultural views, it is necessary to understand the biological ethnicity of each patient through a ââ¬Ëbiodataââ¬â¢ aspect of the history. From the biodata, the religious denomination is noted. The occupation, family and social histories also reveal the mental state. Doctorââ¬â¢s adoption of line of thought would be of help. For example, a friendly way of approach gives the patients sense of worth and avoids any feelings of inferiority complex that may hinder patientââ¬â¢s opening up in detail. The doctor also needs not unnecessarily friendly, this could denote carefree attitude at times. 80% of the treatment receives is dependent of how elaborate is the history taken by the doctor. An understanding of introversion and extroversion communication type equally helps. It is necessary to carry the patient along, after the knowledge about the patientââ¬â¢s present state, preempt the patientsââ¬â¢ worry and briefly explain why the next question is necessary.

The Best and Worst Training Experiences Research Paper
The Best and Worst Training Experiences - Research Paper Example Elements of training design include setting learning objectives, developing instructional strategies, evaluating performance, sequence objectives, and content establishment, and the application of knowledge and skills (HSS, 2012). A trainer should choose the best form of training from the list of available options for better results. This paper will analyze both my best and worst training experiences as an employee with reference to the book, ââ¬Å"Employee Training and Developmentâ⬠by Raymond A. Noe. My training as a driver is probably the best training experience I have had for years. Since my earlier years, I had always hoped to become a driver. Therefore, when the chance came I took it with enthusiasm. I took the training for a number of reasons. Firstly, I had hoped to own a car in a few monthsââ¬â¢ time and therefore I had to learn the skills of driving to be able to drive my own car. Secondly, I had a job in a food store where I was required to have a driving license as an additional skill. Therefore, the management sent me to a driving school for training. The objective of the training was to equip me with the necessary driving skills and road safety rules that would enable me to transport foodstuffs around my state effectively, safely and without breaking any traffic rules. Actually, I was not the only trainee in our driving school at the time. The design of the training targeted all students who desired to acquire the skills and knowledge in driving. I participated in the training alongside my colleagues. The training took place in many locations. The theory classes took place in a room suited for a driving lesson while the practical took place on the road. This arrangement was very suitable and conducive for this type of training. Different training methods were in application. Lectures and discussions took place in class while skill lessons applied on the road using the training car (FAO, 1998). The expertise of the trainer was unquestiona ble. He used convenient language, moderate training speed, gave instructions with an understanding mind, and was very encouraging. His mode of communication was perfect and he offered us chances to discuss and practice. The elements that I appreciated most in the training process included setting learning objectives, developing instructional strategies, evaluating performance, and the application of knowledge and skills (HSS, 2012). The application of the Behaviorism theory was clear in the training. I would observe and implement what the trainer was doing on the wheels until it become clear (Mergel, 1998). I can actually say the training was successful and I was able to transfer my learning to my job as I can drive comfortably and safely. However, I would recommend an increase on the practical lessons and the introduction of counseling topics for would-be drivers. My training as a sales representative was a bad experience. I had ventured in this training with a hope of securing a p art-time job with a soft drink manufacturing company. The objective of the training was to equip me with necessary sales and marketing knowledge and skills. The target audience was a number of students from our student organization. A friend and I participated in the training. The training took place in one of the empty rooms in the company and the training room was not conducive for the training as there was too much noise from the manufacturing machines in the company.

Compare and Contrast Huckleberry Finn to Douglas's Search for Essay
Compare and Contrast Huckleberry Finn to Douglas's Search for Happiness and Freedom - Essay Example Douglas is a slave who inherited his slave status from his mother. Since his childhood, he has lived and behaved, as their masters require to slaves. His story is well told in his narrative until his success story when he manages on escaping. His story has similarities and differences when compared with the story of Huckleberry Finn. Both Finn and Douglas have grown up without the knowledge of their fathers. In their writing, they prove to have spent all their lives trying to figure out the person who could be their father. Douglas could have asked his mother, but she died when he was a child. No one was left with the information he needed to know, and if the father was alive, he did not want to be identified. According to the statements given in his narrative, the master of his mother was his father. However, the master could not declare or raise his voice to confirm his doubts since he wanted to have the privilege of being both a master and a father. It is clear that Douglas has ne ver been able to get information regarding his father. On the other hand, Finn has a father but has been lost for sometime as par the novel. He was a drunkard who would lie down with the hogs once he had too much to drink. This can be identified as contrast between these two writers. However, there is some aspect of similarity since Finn is rejected. Both of them have to undergo difficulties in life because they lack parents. Finn cannot be involved in his group because he could not keep to the requirements of the oath. The oath stated that if any boy told their secrets the punishment would be killing of their families. Finn lacked a family hence the reason for neglection. This gives a reason for the boys to rule him out since he lacked someone they would kill. They claimed that it would be unfair if he were included in the oath taking (Twain 34). Similarly, Douglas had many difficulties just because he lacked a family. His mother dies when he is extremely young and is forced to fac e life on his own. It would be possible to state that he had an aunt who would take care o him. The fact is that, she was always busy in the farm to the extent that she cold not takes great care of Douglas as young boy. This leads to the start of Douglas as slave at a very young age. As Fin is in his search for happiness, he indulges in many unlawful activities. He is signed in as a party in a gang of robbers who seem to have ability to kill (Twain 57). In their quest for freedom, they meet women who are ready to assist them. Christianity is portrayed as a way of achieving freedom among people who are oppressed. Douglas is capable of using Christian literatures to learn how to read. His master is very unhappy when he realizes that his wife is teaching a lave religion. He is furious because he believes that religion knowledge given to a slave brings them entitlement to end their time as slaves. This could be true because Douglas acquired freedom through the knowledge of religion. Fin n has a good woman taking care of him. She always reminds him to pray so that he would achieve all his desires. This is a similarity between the two works because Christianity is portrayed as a powerful solution to problems. It is important to note that, in their quest for freedom, these two people did not mind about hurting others. Finn is ready to sacrifice the relationship between himself and the woman Watson. Despite the fact that she takes care of him, he still proceeds with an oath that has her as the ideal seal. On the

Organizations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Organizations - Essay Example Where a mechanistic organization focuses on the parts that make the whole, organic organizations focus on the whole itself. With less focus on hierarchy and more concern with across-the-board contribution to a common concern, organic organizations tend to be much more collaborative. I think the dynamic nature of todayââ¬â¢s markets will favor the organic organization over the mechanistic, and that the organic form will be the predominant form in the 21st Century. 2. Discuss generic organizational design including defender, prospector, analyzer, and reactor organizations. Offer examples of the different organizations where you have worked that adopted these designs. Which type do you believe would best fit a criminal justice organization, and why? The generic organizational design theory sets forth four broad categories to describe the nature of a company. The ââ¬Å"defenderâ⬠has more of an institutional relationship to a market or community as it uses its organizational control to ensure efficiency of production and distribution. Examples of this type of organization include McDonalds, IBM, or other standardized manufacturers. The ââ¬Å"prospectorâ⬠organization, as the name implies, is focused upon the identification of new opportunities and finding ways to take advantage of them. Their operations tend to be less standardizes, more diverse, and multi-process oriented. Probably any and all of the Dotcoms would be considered in the prospector category. ââ¬Å"Analyzerâ⬠organizations tend to bridge the concepts of the defender and prospector; developing new opportunities at the institutional level while maintaining a traditional base approach to customers and products. The analyzer organization tends to comb ine standardized and innovative elements into efficiency and stability. I think the LAPD is the best example of this type of
Organization Theory Synthesis Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Organization Theory Synthesis - Term Paper Example The nature of management is described in its ability to get people to work together in order to accomplish specific goals and objectives through the use of resources to achieve efficiency and effectiveness. The basic principle in management is the ability to guide people through processes within the organization in order to achieve specific goals (Adair, 2007). Scholars argue that people are what make an organization and thus it is impossible to talk about organizations without looking at people. To manage these people and resources, therefore, requires the ability to plan, control, organize, staff and lead in order to achieve efficiency (Anaeto, 2010). Over the years, a number of theories have been advanced on how to manage people. Classical theories emphasized that specifically designed formal structures and a consistent, rigid organizational network of employees are most important in having an organization running well and achieve its goals. Thus these theories looked at employees holding specific jobs and being guided on what to do. Independence on the part of the employee was very minimal. These theories do not worry about how people feel about the jobs but rather performance was quantifiable and paramount in operations. Such theories include the scientific management theory proposed by Frederick Taylor (French, Rayner, Rees, & Rumbles, 2011). The shortcomings in these theories made scholars come up with other theories that considered the human element of employees. These theories thus centered on peopleââ¬â¢s attitudes and motivations as the key to getting employees to work better. These theories argued that employees who are satisfied with their jobs feel indebted to their employers and will show appreciation by being more productive. Such is the basis for Theory X and Y that shows the transition from the scientific management to the human aspect of management (Crispen Chipunza, 2011). Managing people and resources thus requires the implementation of a specific organization design that will support the systems and processes in place.Ã
